Water leakage on a stopcock

Lack of use of anything is not good, especially when it comes down to your plumbing. For instance it stopcock doesn’t not be operated for a long time may produce a leak. This leak will originate in the packing of the land nut. The first thing that anyone would try and do is to tighten the gland to try and stop the leak. This will probably make the valve very hard to work as it puts once of pressure onto the packing, displacing it which creates more problems. Always ensure that the piece of equipment are about to work on is fully isolated.B). Remove the packing gland anticlockwise and pull away from it housing and slight it along the spindle. The valve is off so a small amount of water may appear but that will only be draining down from the system.C). Having removed the gland use some PTFE tape around the spindle, pressing it into the hole for the gland nut.D). Now tighten it just enough to put pressure on the new packing material inside the gland.E).
